Two people were killed this weekend in Columbus, Mississippi after a hit and run accident on the city’s northern side. The wreck happened around 3am on Interstate 71 heading southbound just beyond Morse road.
An unidentified person traveling in a maroon colored Dodge Charger with large chrome rims and tinted windows was traveling down interstate 71 southbound when for reasons that are currently being investigated the charger ran into a Pontiac Montana.
The Pontiac Montana was hit on the left hand side and immediately veered off the roadway. The vehicle struck the median, rolled over several times, and finally came to rest upside down at 4949 Freeway Drive East. During this time the two occupants within the vehicle were ejected onto the roadway.
The dodge charger continued on its way while the two occupants and the vehicle were left. When Columbus police arrived at the scene of the accident, the man from the Pontiac Montana was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman occupying the vehicle was taken immediately to Riverside Methodist Hospital where she was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the accident.
Columbus Mississippi police are currently searching for the driver of the Dodge charger. The description of the vehicle is a maroon vehicle with large chrome rims, darkly tinted black windows, and blue xenon lights. The vehicle would have right front corner damage.
