Mississippi Auto Insurance Policies

At Richard Schwartz and Associates of Jackson, Mississippi we are dedicated to making the community a better place to live. Car Insurance can be very confusing, sometimes trying to determine what would be the best policy for you and your family can be downright overwhelming. In this article we are going to break down the state minimum for car insurance, and explain why each different section is important to you as a driver.

In Mississippi the legal car insurance minimum is $25,000 bodily injury liability per person in an accident, $50,000 bodily injury liability per accident, and $25,000 property damage liability.
So what does that really mean?

The $25,000 bodily injury liability per person in an accident means the very maximum amount that can be paid to a person injured in an accident is 25,000 dollars. Bodily injury only includes an injury on the body that has to be treated by a doctor. Any other “injuries” will not be considered for individual bodily injury liability.

The $50,000 bodily injury liability per accident means the maximum amount that will be paid out for an accident is $50,000. So, whether the accident involved one or six people the total amount that will be paid out for that accident is $50,000 as far as bodily injury is involved.

The $25,000 property damage liability means the maximum amount that can paid out for property damage is $25,000. This does not include any injury to the person; it is purely for property damage.

As you can see, this bare minimum amount of coverage really does not cover much. A basic emergency room visit can easily top $25,000, and this does not include ongoing medical treatment. If your accident involves more than two people, you can be positive that the $50,000 maximum coverage won’t cover their injuries.

At Richard Schwartz and Associates of Mississippi, we urge people to get more than the minimum amount of coverage when it comes to car insurance. Every driver needs an uninsured motorist’s policy, and more than the minimum 50,000 maximum coverage for medical injury. Medical bills add up quickly in a serious wreck, and you do not want to be stuck paying the difference after an accident.
