"What is an independent Medical Evaluation, and why would I need to get one?"
An independent medical examination (IME) is when a doctor/physical therapist/chiropractor who has not ever been involved in a person’s care examines an individual. There is no past doctor/therapist and patient relationship. IMEs may be done to help determine the cause, extent and medical treatment of a work-related or other injury where liability is an issue. You have the right to an IME to help prove and reinforce your claims.
When needed, Richard Schwartz & Associates asks their clients to get an IME so that we help you get the proper compensation you need for your injuries. When you're injured, you know your doctor bills and your doctor's notes are very important to determine the extent of your injury. Having a clean, clear record of everything you've done to help treat or diagnosis your injuries is very important. The IME assists with the documentation of your case so that our lawyers can further your claim against the insurance company or worker's compensation company. Richard Schwartz & Associates provides that for you, that's part of our service as a law firm.
