Halloween can be one of the most dangerous nights for drivers and pedestrians since there are more people out trick-or-treating. While pedestrians must do their part by making sure they can be seen by drivers it’s also the responsibility of the drivers to make sure they follow some guidelines of their own. Use the following tips to ensure that your Halloween doesn’t end in a car accident or a collision with a pedestrian.
Drive slowly through neighborhoods even if you don’t see anyone out.
Plan to leave a little early if you’re heading out so you’re not rushed and avoid cutting through roads you know might have lots of kids trick-or-treating.
While parents need to make sure they’re watching their kids and not running out into the street, be on the lookout just in case. Kids may be distracted by the goodies in their bag and dark costumes can create a dangerous situation for drivers who aren’t paying attention.
You and any passengers should buckle up when getting into the car even if you’re just going down the street. Most accidents happen close to home and even if you’re driving slowly you never know when someone else may hit your car causing a car accident.
Don’t drink and drive. Nothing can be more deadly than a buzzed or drunk driver, especially when there are so many pedestrians out. If you are unable to drive call a friend or cab but don’t risk your life and others lives by getting into your car.
