• Make-A-Wish Golf Tournament

Every Spring, Richard Schwartz and Associates becomes a proud sponsor of the annual Make-A-Wish golf tournament.  This year, the tournament was featured at the gorgeous greens of Deerfield Country Club in Gluckstadt, MS.  Six of our attorneys entered the competition, and eight of our volunteers geared up to assist golfers to their carts, prepare goody bags for all participants, and help judge the putting contest.

Volunteers Kathy Spratlin, Courtney Bounds, and Toni Lewis take a moment for the camera before a hard day's work.

All efforts by volunteers and golfers were to benefit six year-old Linden, Make-A-Wish child who wanted nothing more than "to see Hawaii, the volcanoes, the dolphins, and the hula girls".

Volunteer Kathy Spratlin remarked on her participation in the tournament: "I love the Mississippi Make-A-Wish golf tournament. It's a wonderful opportunity to help a child's wish as well as their sibling's wish come true! Families go through a lot with their sick children. This was a perfect chance to meet the young boy we sponsored.  I am very proud to be part of Richard Schwartz and Associates.  I was so blessed when I walked through these front doors, almost 2 years ago. I could not ask for a better place to work. Thank you for allowing me to be part of this wonderful team!"

  • Nathan's Law Awareness Ride

Some causes that we get involved with are "no-brainers", Nathan's Law is one of those causes. Named for Nathan Key, a young boy killed after getting out of the school bus across from his home in Laurel, the bill clarifies the offense of passing a stopped school bus, increases the fines for offenses, prohibits the use of a wireless device such as a cell phone in school crossings without hands-free accessories, and prohibits bus drivers from using such devices. It also requires education campaigns on school bus safety.

Nathan's parents channeled their greif into a cause, these remarkable people wanted to do what ever was possible to make sure that other families didn't suffer the same tragedy. This April 12, the Blue Knights International Motorcycle Club held victory/awareness ride and we were proud to participate.

Remember, use caution around school buses and don't use your cell phone while driving through school zones. Pass the word to your friends.
