As fall begins to arrive you may be noticing cooler temperatures, the slightest hint of leaves changing and the sun glaring in at you on your drive home from work.
The sun’s sharp glare during the fall months can be dangerous causing those who are in its path to look away. This can be deadly if you look away at the wrong moment and can cause a car accident. Fall can be a very dangerous time for drivers with the suns glare, falling leaves creating a slippery hazard and as animals, especially deer, are out.
Use these tips to help keep you safe while driving during the fall months:
- Schedule a little extra time into your commute to avoid rushing and in case you run into any construction zones or animals.
- Wear sunglasses to avoid squinting or looking away when the sun is in your eyes.
- If you cannot see at all try to pull over safely.
- Adjust your speed, especially if you are having trouble seeing.
- Keep a safe distance between you and other drivers.
- Keep your windshield clean so you can clearly see anything on the road and other vehicles.
- Avoid driving over patches of leaves; this could cause your car to slip and you might not be able to stop as quickly.
- Don’t swerve for deer or other animals; brake firmly, holding the steering wheel tight with both hands and come to a controlled stop.
