Auto Safety Check

While losing an extra hour of sleep to Daylight Savings Time may seem annoying it’s a small price to pay for having more hours of daylight. The nicer weather and longer days mean more road trips, often after dark and while most people remember to check their headlights during the fall and winter months they often forget during the spring and summer months.

Car headlights play an important role in safe driving since the risk of having a car wreck increases if you can’t see or be seen. Like the oil in your car it’s important to periodically check your car headlights to make sure everything is working. Oftentimes you can’t tell if a headlight is out from the driver’s seat.

Follow these other tips to decrease your risk of a car crash:
Keep headlights, taillights and signal lights clean. Make sure that your headlights are properly aimed to avoid blinding other drivers. Turn your headlights on at dusk, when it’s raining in addition to when it’s nighttime.
In addition to checking lights be sure to change your wiper windshield blades. Your risk of having a car accident increases during rain and it’s important to make sure your wiper blades are working and you can see clearly.
