According to a report by AAA, about 56% of all car wrecks are caused by unsafe driving behavior such as aggressive driving. Some of the most well known driving aggressions are preventing other drivers from passing, illegal driving along the shoulder and tailing other cars.
Speeding however is the most common aggressive behavior and nearly half of the people who participated in the study admitted to going over the speed limit within the past 30 days. Not only can unsafe driving cause a car wreck, but you could also endanger pedestrians. Neighborhoods are one of the most dangerous places to speed since many people may be out walking or there may be kids playing who might dart out into the street. Failing to yield properly, running stoplights or stop signs is also considered as aggressive driving.
Don’t make inappropriate hand gestures at other drivers and avoid tailing or unnecessary honking.
Be sure to schedule extra time into your drive so you’re not rushed and feel pressured to speed or are distracted and miss important road signs or traffic signals. Do your best to avoid other aggressive drivers. Don’t allow their behavior provoke you to participate in unsafe driving behaviors. If you find yourself getting upset at what another driver has done take a few deep breaths to calm you down so the situation doesn’t escalate.
